Dr. Sara A. Hosn is a New York and Florida state licensed clinical psychologist specialized in the treatment of adolescent and adult survivors of trauma, chronic adversity, and significant life stressors. She holds an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) under PSYPACT, which allows her to provide telehealth services to clients located in any PSYPACT participating state. She attained her Master of Science and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and later completed board certification in the subspecialty of clinical psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology. She pursued her clinical internship through the Department of Veteran Affairs at the Hudson Valley VA hospital in New York. She also completed her postdoctoral fellowship in a private hospital specialized in the treatment of dual diagnosis, mostly mood and anxiety disorders with comorbid substance use disorders.
Dr. Sara A. Hosn works with adolescents, adults, and seniors in individual, group, and family therapy. She is specialized in the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, life adjustment difficulties, substance use disorders, dissociation and other trauma-related conditions. Dr. Sara A. Hosn is a firm believer in the importance of the human connection in psychotherapy and building a treatment alliance that transcends dependency and fosters change and growth. Though rooted in humanistic and person-centered treatment approaches, Dr. Sara A. Hosn has also received extensive training in several Evidence-Based Treatments. She is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and was among the first clinicians in South Florida to hold the Linehan Board of Certification DBT certification credential (DBT-LBC). In addition, she has served on a couple of B-TECH intensively trained DBT consultation teams; she was a member of the Hudson Valley VA Medical Center consultation team and she is currently on the South Florida DBT Consortium consultation team. Moreover, she is a certified provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD.
In recent years, Dr. Hosn has extended this foundation in the treatment of trauma into work with high performers, including athletes, executives, frontline professionals, and others whose roles demand sustained output under chronic stress. She completed EMDR Therapy Basic Training and pursued advanced training in EMDR and Performance, applying reprocessing techniques to performance blocks, freeze responses related to injury, and the stress related “stuck points” that can affect athletes and performers of all ages. She also completed the HeartMath Clinical Certification Program through the HeartMath Institute, a course in heart rate variability biofeedback, the building of physiological coherence, and self regulation, all of which she now integrates directly into her work on nervous system regulation and resilience.
Alongside this work, Dr. Hosn has also developed a deep interest in how systems biology shapes mental health. She completed AFMCP (Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice) training through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), a course which focusses on gastrointestinal health, cardiometabolic health, bioenergetics, hormone health, and environmental and immune factors. She then completed Advanced Practice Modules in Hormone Health and Bioenergetics. To further advance her knowledge in lifestyle medicine, she attended Harvard Medical School’s continuing education program, Lifestyle Medicine: Tools for Promoting Healthy Change and is currently pursuing Board Certification in Lifestyle Medicine though American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). Together, this training informs an approach to stress, recovery, and performance that treats the mind and body as a single interconnected system.
Dr. Hosn is the founder and clinical director of DBT Center of South Florida. She is also the cofounder of the multisite initiative known as South Florida DBT Consortium. A program dedicated to elevating the practice and dissemination of adherent Dialectical Behavior Therapy that follows the Linehan model.
For many years, Dr. Hosn served as an Adjunct Professor in the Master's in Counseling program at Lynn University in Boca Raton. She has lectured and presented nationally and internationally on topics including cross cultural clinical psychology, comparative effectiveness of PTSD treatments, the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for the treatment of Complex PTSD and dissociative disorders, and the treatment of survivors in emergency mental health settings. She has served for numerous years on the Leadership Committee of the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) and was the Distance Learning Committee Chair of ISTSS.
